Black Children’s Book Week is a global celebration of Black children and the people who ensure Black children are represented in books and other children’s media. Black Children’s Book Week starts on the last Sunday in February every year and was created by Veronica N. Chapman.
Black Children’s Books Oklahoma is an affiliated organization that launched on July 13, 2023. Bunni Bear Books and Share The Tea, LLC combined resources and expertise with a shared objective to build empathy and understanding for a diversity perspective for children books. Black Children's Books Oklahoma launched the inaugural Black Children’s Book Week in February 2024.

When black children see themselves represented in literature, it can
inspire to pursue their dreams and
aspirations. It sparks an interest in reading and learning. We are dedicated to enhancing the visibility of black children’s books and access to creatives in black literature.
Our mission is “rooting our children in a love for books.” By expanding the goals of Black Children’s Book Week, we are helping to ensure our Oklahoma children are rooted in books. With this we strive
to increase reading literacy through
inspiration, empowerment,
and aspirations.
